CBD store opens in East Walnut Hills

EAST WALNUT HILLS, Ohio (WKRC) – A freestanding CBD store opened Thursday in the city of Cincinnati, offering a variety of products made with CBD that can be used to treat a number of ailments — from anxiety and insomnia to pain.

Jason Friedman opened his Ohio CBD Guy store at the corner of Madison Road and Woodburn Avenue Thursday morning. Friedman had actually opened a kiosk at Kenwood Towne Centre in 2018, but the state of Ohio determined CBD fell under medical marijuana. Friedman closed up his kiosk and opened a store in Covington since he felt like he may be operating in a gray area in Ohio. CBD is derived from hemp.

However, in July, Gov. Mike DeWine signed a bill into law that legalized CBD in Ohio. Friedman decided to open a store in Ohio after the bill was signed.

“We want to make sure that our customers walk out of here with the education that they need to feel comfortable in finding the right product for them,” Friedman said.

Friedman used to work in medical supply sales. But two years ago, a friend introduced him to CBD and he started taking it for anxiety. He decided to make a career out of it.

“I have issues with anxiety, stress and sleep, and I was amazed how well it helped me with those issues,” Friedman said. “I actually used to take a prescription medication for anxiety that I no longer have to take anymore.”

CBD has become more popular and research has shown it can treat ailments successfully. Friedman said he sells products made in Kentucky, California, Ohio and Maryland and only carries products that are tested by a third-party lab to ensure they’re safe.

“We want to make sure that our customers walk out of here with the education that they need to feel comfortable in finding the right product for them,” Friedman said.

The store is located in East Walnut Hills, which is experiencing a second renaissance. Redevelopment is also occurring in neighboring Walnut Hills.

“Well, I walk past it twice a day at a minimum. But it will also bring in more people to the neighborhood and that’s key to everybody in the neighborhood,” said David Pierce, Ohio CBD Guy’s first customer.

Pierce takes CBD products to treat insomnia and pain. He believes the products are effective. The store carries teas, oils, seltzer, dog treats and more.

“My customers are very excited to share their experience on how it’s helping them,” Friedman said.
